So its nearing that unfortunate time where im nearing the need for new pads and discs. im chasing peoples experiences with different brands what to use and what to avoid Car is na manual (328mm? Dogbone adapters) and will be track use only main tracks will be smsp, wakefield and local hill climbs... i was thinking a good pad that won't require alot of heat to start working (due to the hiĺl climbs) and as for discs... no clue Argue away Ben
Pretty sure I've got EBC blues on the front, good bite and no issues around town, hot runs they get dusty and I need to hose off the discs to get them to stop squealing but that's about it for complaints. Rear are QFM HPX ceramic, no notable wear or dust issues (my wheels are almost brake dust coloured anyway so I don't tend to notice too much) made very bad noises when the discs were getting hot though (~600C), still seemed to work and didn't lose material but I backed off.
GKTECH have an awesome deal on at the moment for 2 piece rotors for 324mm. We bought some for a mate that used them last trackday and felt good. http://www.gktech.com/index.php/324mm-r33-gtr-2-piece-slotted-rotors-sold-as-a-pair.html As far as pads go, there are many to choose from. Im going to assume you have removed your dust guards already as that is number 1 thing to do first to keep temps down. What pads are you using now? A baseline start of which pads you have used will give people a better idea which direction to point you in. Generally though, for autocross/light track Project Mu HC800+ Hawk HT10 (heavier duty), Hawk HP Plus (lighter duty), QFM A1RM (lighter duty) EBC Red (don't normlly recommend these as have had pad material fall off backing plate ) Intima SR which seem well priced and offer good temp at 700degC however I have never used them so can't comment on how good they are. More track orientated pads Hawk DTC60 (crazy bite even when cold and used on the street) Hawk DTC70 (even more bite then DTC 60)
It says on their website these are a floating hat? That's a very good price if they are a full floating rotor.
are the discs 320 for the pair? ((sold as a pair)that how i read it) seems to cheap to be true? if true ill probably order them this week 2pc should be better then most 1pc available current is prockys old setup, dba4000? rotors and hawk pads (unknown type) ill avoid the ebc's (as i already have them) and will see if andrew remembers what pads i got off of him, might do some study on the ones you have named and see what i come up with (value for money) any experiance with ferodo?
Very cheap indeed, even without the discount they're at least as cheap as DBAs. Also, realised my rears are A1RM not HPX, would probably only recommend them if you find them cheap anyway, ok on the street but lacking a bit in heat tolerance.
With all the options popping up to fit 6 pot brembos (srt8/17Z/18Z) with 355mm z34 discs it's handy to have though. & the fronts aren't that expensive
320 for a pair/front set, when im looking at dba 1pc for 500 a pair i think ill grab 2pc for less and spend the savings on pads
anywhere in aus that sell brake pads at a decent price? have emailed brakes direct and race brakes sydney, just looking for the best deal ben
With these entry level front brake upgrades, adapter bones and borrowed discs. What is the equivalent entry level upgrade for the rear ? And how is the handbrake sorted as I don't think larger rear disks have built in rear/hand brake drums ?
Ron (wizard) was running stock rears and smashing the track. Won't need upgrades unless your really really pushing the limit *with stoptech? Fronts
Plenty of nissan based options retain the handbrake, like the 337mm ones I mentioned above. Options that use the z34 rear discs do too (as do skyline brembos). Wouldn't describe the front options as entry level either, yes they use an adapter bracket but brembo 18Z (or 17Z or srt8, ctsv) 6 pots with z34 355mm discs are quite the combo. Shineyzx I went QFM hpx's (more a street option though) with DBA rotors from brakes direct, found them very well priced. Had a few posts here too so might be worth mentioning the forum?
Wiz possessed an "unhealthy"(?) amount of "suicide wish"(accompanied by VERY LARGE GONADS)which is mandatory when throwing a Z32 around in this manner. If you DON'T have something similar, re-assess your method of attack!:zlove::br:
