Boost controller or not?

    Hey Guys

    At this stage I am not planning run above 12 PSI until everything has settled and all mods have taken place at which stage, I will then put my race motor in, so it's setup ready to go with no teething issues whilst running in.

    I have 12 PSI minimum actuators and a SEBC Blitz boost controller.

    I was going to install the SEBC but then thought why?

    If 12 PSI is all I need - then just plumb the actuators directly to the intercooler boost pressure lines and block off the turbo intake vacuum lines since there is no safety solenoids. Both lines would still be as per stock just without a t- piece / vacuum / safety and I cannot get lower than 12 PSI anyway.

    Then I can install the SEBC later just prior to when the new engine goes in.


    I cannot see a problem with doing this, but don't profess to know everything either, given some of the confusion/ arguments on other posts of turbine pressures and responses, I thought I should ask others here on whether there is a problem / advantage or not / disadvantage with doing this just to make sure - before I do it.

    Why not plumb direct from the intercooler to the actuators - I guess is the technical question here ? (If there is one)

    Electronic boost controllers can improve spool by not feeding pressure to the actuator until a set point but other than that running lines straight from the IC pipes to the actuators works perfectly and is nice and simple.

    The other benefit of installing it now is you can figure out the controller before you change a lot more things so it isn't a potential issue if you end up with some problems with the race set up.

    Good point re: spooling up at set point - that will be fine.......

    12psi springs will not see 12psi at the manifold

    Standard pressure signal is like 3" before the throttle bodies, what's pressure drop from there to the back of the plenum?

    If your wastegates are set to open at 12psi using a handpump/compressor on the bench, they will open earlier when they are operating in the car due to exhaust pressure which also acts to open the gate. mine are set at 15psi and my low boost is 13psi.

    Ah, good point, I'm guessing you're on stock turbos though? Will be a bit more of an academic difference at 12psi with GT28 turbines. (JC had another thread on fitting 2860s)

    Sandeep is running GT2560R -manifold pressure will always be slightly lower than spring pressure
