*** Tech day....for a mate with a Z32

Awkward question so I'll start with the sob story.

Got a mate with a nice clean 1993 Z32 TT Manual 2 seater that's been well looked after.

He's had 2 zeds and this one he drove over from SA when he moved over. He loves the car but isn't on the forums, allthough he was going to come on the recent night cruise.

He's been told that the head gasket needs doing but he's lost his job a few months ago, and due to get married in May.

He can't afford the ~$4K he's been quoted for an engine swap (including the price of the recon engine) or the $5K he's been quoted to do the head gasket.

So I said I'd ask the question on here, are the WA guys willing to help this fella out with a couple of tech days.

1 to pull the engine, and get to the original HG

And another to put it all back again

If I can find a place to host the car for a few weeks, I'm sure me and him can scrape together the $$$ for the parts (and I assume the head should be machined to be sure?)

Keeping in mind I've never even doine a plenum pull, just normal servicing when I owned mine......

It'll be a big one I know and given he's not even a forum member I totally understand if this is a no go, but said I'd ask the question.

To be up front, his other options are
1)Sell as is for next to nothing
    but also
    2) even once fixed, he may still sell to get into something cheaper to look after.

    :zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove:

Cheers mate, and yeah really just after an *** at the moment. If people are willing to help out for beers, then we'll formalise some details.

Didn't want to assume people would be on board given Simon isn't a forum member and all.

Sounds like we're making Ikea furniture :D

Ok based on the kind souls here, I'll go back to Simon and say we "may" have a chance to get this done.

Approx cost of parts? And of course I'll make sure foods and beers are funded :D

Do we need a hoist or just engine crane? (and who's got one?)

Hoist not needed... crane needed if we pulling engine... pulled engine means bonus of cleaning it up more
Cost of parts depends on how indepth your wanting to go. New head gasket, timing belt kit, plenum gasket....

    OK guys.

Met with Simon today and he's stoke that people hes never even met may be willing to help out.

The car not long ago had the 200K service done including all belts etc so we're treating this (hopefully) as just the head gasket and possibly machining the head if warped.

The rad is only a couple of years old and I think the thermostat is new too.

Before he lost his job, the car was regularly serviced by PZP so its been well looked after.

Checked out Simons garage space and there's pleanty of room to work on the car there.

So.....how much we looking at for parts?
    • Head Gasket?
    • Machine Head?

Other than that.... I guess we need to talk dates....and also whos got an Engine Crane? If I have to bit the bullet and buy one I will.
