    G'day guys,

Need some advice. I have a 91 TT.
    3.5inch exhaust
    K&N air Filter
EBC running 12 psi (When i have it on obviously) otherwise it's only on stock psi

Getting the ECU Chipped and then Dyno Tuned:
    - Is it worth it?
    - At the moment every time i turn that EBC on it scares me, in the fact i think it's going to blow up (superstition, horror story's)... Would a tune make it 'safe'? In a way that i could turn it on, plant my foot and not give a rats ass.
    - Would you get much power gain from it?
    - Any places you would recommend? (Friendly, helpful, knows the Z32 etc)
    - Also I assume that when you get it tuned, you get that pretty dyno print out that tells you how many pony's you got under your hood and all that other jazz (I only want that for the fun of it + bragging rights to my 4 banga mates)

The only place that I know of, that won't kick up a stink about a Z32 is PZP. However my knowledge is next ti nil, thus why i am asking.

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong section of the forum for this sort of thing.

id be inclined to put on some bigger intercoolers before you get it tuned.

you will get a power bump from a tune, but its best not to pust the car to hard on the stock intercoolers. plus the intercoolers will certainly give you a power gain as well, so win.

Tom at PZP can and tune your car if you like, but there are other workshops that will do it as well.

Good point actually! thanks for reminding me, I do have larger SMIC's

Being a car... of age (I guess in a way), would it be beneficial to the car to have it done with all the new parts that it does have now like exhaust, pod filter, intercoolers etc. to make it all run in sync. Or would it be fine how it is (stock)
    Basically would you do it?

From memory it was ~$800 chipped and tuned at PZP. Which seems fine by me.

And i like that pretty piece of paper as a wank factory hahah Mostly out of curiosity. Plus the bosses give me sh&% for having a Nissan.. (Between them there's a Aston Martin Vantage, Lotus Elise SC, Maserati, older Jag, and Commodore SSV. So just a little competition here in the office haha)

    But that's off topic.

Do it the right way, Install a NISTune so that you can alter the AF fuel map and timeing settings and other running settings that way you won't burn out pistons and blow motor on the Dyno. With a K&N Pop air filter, 2.5" CAT back exhaust system ,EBC set 12 to 13psi .New plugs ,standard intercoolers .Should give you a return of about 235 Kw at the rear wheels ,590Nm rear wheel torque.Safely.

I don't like to disagree with Nem -he's a hell of a lot more informed re tuning than I am BUT my .02c anyway!

You will gain some power by leaning it out a little.

If it were me I would sooner fit aftermarket intercoolers and wind the boost up to 1 bar before getting it tuned.

Thanks for the advise. I should of remembered though that I have actually installed larger SMIC's. and currently running 12 psi. I read every where that people say 14psi is safe, but I'm playing it safer.

Oh ofcourse he will, no doubt about it. But as i wrote, safest is stock. That's not to say you can't have it tuned a little harder and still be safe :)

really am not pissing on your fire or trying to prove my penis length here. very good vid from haltech for educational purposes.

for me I think of tuning like this. fuel is 20% and piss easy to get right really. timing is 80% of the game and making it go bang at the correct point is awesome.

Water methanol and a solid tune would be my next mod for you. if you can risk it go 100% meth and lots of it then take out fuel in your tuning so more of your fuel been burned is methanol :D.............but that is a bit risky LOL

    Ok so to update:

    91 Z32 300zx TT
    3.5" exhaust
    Pod Filter
    Larger SMIC's (JAPTEK)
    EBC @ 12psi (Currently)

    What to do next
    NIStune board
    get myself on a dyno

Any disagreement with that? I'm not looking for a huge push on power or anything. But something would be nice. Also peace of mind to run on 14 psi. (depending on turbo condition, worth a inspection?)
    Plus some paper to frame

with that list your good to go on the dyno for a tune. id give it a oil and filter change before hand and just a quick check over make sure theres nothing suspect (little boost leaks etc etc)

with your ebc you can probly have it set to a couple of levels, so say 12 for everday driving and say 16 or so for max power.

16 psi fine? I've always been scared with the zed. although I don't think i should be. Just cautious.

people have different opinions on this, but 16psi on manual turbos will be fine. you "could" take it even further and probly still make even more power, but you do start to push the turbos very close to the limit. at 16 psi, they are certainly working hard, but arent out of puff yet.

At 16psi boost you are starting to generate some heat problems for yourself ,remember they are only spun cast alloy pistons .Larger intercoolers are a good thing at high range boost pressures. I run four boost settings on my EBC. with standard intercoolers 8psi boost if I am in the bush an can only buy 91 rom ,10psi boost for any one else who uses the car.12psi boost for normal daily use . 14psi boost for over taking double B's trucks on the freeway.

Before investing in a dyno run & tune, check the engine compression.
You mentioned it is a '91TT & not much else, the condition of the engine is unknown.
In addition, check all your wiring connections are in good condition & I do mean all, not some of them.
Make sure you have no vacuum, or boost leaks & make sure the cooling system is in serviceable condition.
If your engine is in good condition & the tuner is worth his money, you should see an improvement in responsiveness & horsepower output.
If the engine is the worse for wear, don't be surprised if the output is less than the factory figures, even after your modifications.
    Nistune is a great product.

Tech day anyone? Haha no problem thanks for the advise guys. I will look into checking it over prior to dyno tuning. It would probably be good to note it had it's 200k service less than 10k ago as well

The stock Zed turbos can pump 17PSI on 98RON before they start pushing too much heat (on E85 they can go a whole lot higher). Cast alloy pistons means shit all, if the tune is good and the fuel can cope it will last. Boost is a restriction to airflow, saying an engine can't take boost because of what material the piston is made out of is complete BS.

Been tested 50:50 mixes give better results for timing than straight 100/0 meth or water .
