Total BS. It's powdered paint that's solventless and is baked on at over 200 degrees C. Can't get a stronger paint to metal bond.

not the paint i thought it was something to do with the heating of the metal at those temps...

Pulled the drivers side suspension out today and stripped them down for powdercoating. Took off all the Nissan standard issue weld spatter with the angloe grinder and a flapper disc, and got all the bolts ready for cadmium plating. Also heading off to get new rubber grommets too.

Anyone got any pics or suggestions as to what would be a good colour to redo the suspension in? I'm thinking a Silver Pearl but not 100% at this stage. Hopefully I'll be able to be able to get it coated without having to seperate the lower section from the upper, or the wheel bearing.

Going to rock coat the inner fender, hopefully will look good enough to not have to run inner plastics.

    Hey Chad,

For carbon steels and other alloys, the grain structure only begins to change at what is known as lower critical temperature which is 723 degrees. If you are interested look up Austenite, Martensite, Pearlite and Ferrite as they are a few of the different grain structures that give you different properties, and if you want to know how to achieve those grain structures check out hardening, Tempering, Annealing, Quenching etc...which are all different heat treatment processes. Its all really interesting stuff, I learnt it in year 12 Engineering last year lol.

But yeah basically powdercoating does not reach a high enough temperature to start changinging the grain structures. Hope that helps...

    Cheers

    Matt

Mate you are insane!! I'm a fussy bastard and I don't think I'd even go to the amount of trouble you have. Major kudos to you I would love to see this zed one day, one of the best for sure!

Billet rods and pistons left the US today. Also upgrading to the ARP L19 head-bolt kit instead of the normal ARP head-bolts I already bought. Also have a stainless clutch line coming too. That's pretty much everything I need so time to build this motor and get it between the towers finally.

Not at the moment Chad, I'm repainting the booster and also the brake/clutch master cylinders before I paint anything else. Also have to do the brake lines again too.

Now to drop them off (bar the clutch line) to the builder. I'm getting a race/drag engine shop to build the short motor so it can stay up in the upper realms of the rev range with much more boost than normal. He's going to modify the oil paths and coolant paths as well as assemble the rotating mass after a good balance. Aiming for another 1000rpm in the rev range at this stage.

Anyone know if there's a thread showing what coolant galleries to modify for cylinder 6?

    Soon to be again...

Supposed to be master to slave. Don't remember there being a banjo connection anywhere in that equation but it's been a while since I looked.

if it's for a LHD zed it will be way too long as their clutch master is on the other side of the car.
