I've heard going to much with a clear coat may cause issues with the paint from the engines heat. Who has painted/clear coated (gloss) their engine bays? Any problems?

I've clear coated mine - no issues so far, although I've only done around 10000km

Depends on what you are clear coating it with.

I've only ever resprayed my engine bay in the same paint as the rest of the car, 2K clear over base, nothing fancy.

I wouldn't bother trying to clear over the factory paint. It's very thing and likely stained.

Dub has a very nice black engine bay and he painted all that with the engine in situ.

is there a reason why you cant use a heat resistance paint or clear coat in the engine bay?

I didn't bother with heat resistant paint.
The car came from Nissan with the same paint in the engine bay as on the rest of the car. I did my engine bay el-cheapo style with aerosols colour matched and made up by an automotive paint supply company, and then used their clear over it. Eventually the rest of the car will be painted this same (Holden) colour, unless now that the engine has to come out again I decide on something else .....

Haven't had any issues with the paint discolouring, flaking, or otherwise turning unhappy.

HICAS, PSR etc etc were all unbolted and moved aside, but not fully removed and disconnected. Didn't worry about the bottom half of the engine bay - once the motor's in you can't see it anyway. Didn't remove the brake booster, but pretty well most of the rest of the stuff in that corner was.

I suppose there is no reason you can't... other then the fact it'd look different to the rest of the car and 2k paint will stand up perfectly fine to the heat(they paint em like that from the factory).
